Don’t Lose Heart

Luke 18:1–3
Now Jesus was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,  saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man.

“There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me legal protection from my opponent.’

Pray:
Our church would multiply their prayer, praying at all times, work, play, alone, or in prayer groups
We step to the throne of grace confidently (Hebrews 4:16) to petition our God-aligned requests.
Our vision keeps looking not at our circumstances, but on One who presides over them.

Luke 18:4-5
“For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.’ ”

Pray:
We shake off worldly influences, judges, and political organizations for (unrighteous) justice.
We are truly asking for our desperate needs, not whims and impulses that flair our broken emotions
That we seek justice for the downtrodden, un-influential, and unpopular who need Godly justice.

Luke 18:6-18a
And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? “I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly.

Pray:
With passion
With expectation
With persistence

Luke 18:6-18b
However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

Pray:
We recognize that our Spirits are built up by repeated visits to the throne room.
For the Return of Jesus
For others’ salvation

Leadership

Acts 6:1:

Now at this time while the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the Hellenistic Jews against the native Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food.

  • Pray that the HS would help us to see Hs perspective of what from our viewpoint, are problems.
  • Pray that we would seek the HS power to identify & deal with these problem/opportunities.

V2-3:

So the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables. “Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.

  • Pray that we would not lose focus on our “Prime Directive: Prayer and the Word of God. To keep these our focus.
  • Pray that the HS would bring others in our church to identify, and willingly & effectively serve in the roles needed to solve the problems of our church, using their spiritual gifts.

V4:

“But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

  • Pray for devotion to Christ
  • Pray for devotion the Word of God

V5-6

The statement found approval with the whole congregation; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch. And these they brought before the apostles; and after praying, they laid their hands on them.

  • Pray for unity within the church to address the problem/opportunities
  • Pray for members by name

The word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.
